To promote women's football, the National Lottery has awarded 170 clubs a total of £1 million.
One million pounds ($1.3 million) has been donated by the National Lottery to 170 football teams around the country. One hundred and seventy clubs throughout the country, including Wyrley Juniors, will receive grants totaling one million pounds.
Funding from the National Lottery's "women's Euro's legacy new team grant" recognises the Lionesses' triumph in the European Championship. Clubs have also benefited from the funding, which is hoped to inspire more women to join.
With their share of the National Lottery award, the football club Wyrley Juniors in Walsall will be able to fund the creation of five new women's teams.
With approximately 70 teams (and shortly to be an additional five), the club is one of the largest in Staffordshire and welcomes football players of all ages.
It is anticipated that the increasing interest in football among women and girls would continue as a result of the 2023 Women's World Cup, which is now being held in Australia and New Zealand.
There was a boom in girls' football following the Euro's, and perhaps the Women's World Cup will have the same impact," said Jo Johnson, club secretary of Wyrley Juniors FC.
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery, we were able to expand our staff and better meet customer needs. Since the Lionesses' victory, we have seen a significant increase in the size of our female player pool.
"Thanks to previous National Lottery funding, we were also able to construct a clubhouse with large changing rooms and toilets for all — it's been brilliant."
